THE MAVERICKS OF 2008

Back in August at that midnight practice of late,

Who would have known what was ahead for the Mavericks of 2008.

We began our year with lots of hard work and dry land drills,

We swam State Meet with all our might and ended our season with lots of thrills.

Oh what awesome memories we all have

Of the season for the Mighty Mav!

Let’s begin with our inspiring Senior Class,

They have led us and pushed us without too much sass.

Laura swam all year with such flair,

Sam instead was worried about Pablo’s hair.

Creasy was yelling and screaming about the swimming mice,

Swift is whining ‘bout the cold but trying to be nice.

Baughman is thinking and thinking out loud – “Why breathing patterns three and five?”

While his buddy, Isaac, is figuring how he’ll make it out of practice dead or alive.

Oh, my gosh, is that Lempke again, flipping upside down into the pool?

Look, there’s Schaeffer with his autographed head – everyone thinks he’s so cool!

What the heck are Gene and Galt yelling and screaming about – who has the           louder mouth?!?

However, that pair will be missed next year – their team spirit can be heard throughout the South!

And finally, there could be none finer than Hyman and his state tee shirt design.

How he still wears that ole Carolina cap continues to blow my mind!!!

Now to our Juniors, ten in all, they all have such heart and soul,

Few complaints from the HL diehards when the weather turned cold!

It’s been quite a challenge to manage the shenanigans of Buchanan, Tanzey, and Wood,

They would have the entire team swimming in woolen long johns if they could.

The Fab Five, made up of Terlitsky, Culbreath, Slessman, Tourigny and Hiller,

They made practice quite interesting even though Coach H’s dry land was always a killer.

Then once a week Becky and Allie were added to the mix,

Coach John and I really had to step it up to keep it going without a fix.

Poor Pablo has to deal with all of those sophomore girls alone,

I see Snelling and Stone talking again on their phones!

Brooks and Mooney are talking and talking and talking so much,

It’s hard to get a word from Spivey, Cottrell and Landa – the rest of the bunch.

Last, but not least, is the youth of our team –

There could not be a better looking group of freshman and 8th graders even in my dream.

DeLaney & Hornaday were our anchors with experience to spare,

Little Tanzey and Danielle made it to State with little or no care.

We were proud to have Thomas, Melton, and Keel -

Brackin and Mann really finished the deal.

It’s so sad to say goodbye to our terrific Seniors each year,

We must remember all the fun it’s been that we hold so dear.

Moxie provided us with inspiration and pride, as it may seem

We will never forget her - “A team above all….above all a TEAM!!!!

Dedicated to the Maverick team of 2008-09, especially to the senior class who inspired Coach Henikman and me and to the memory of Amy Moxie who united us as a TEAM!

                                                                   Love,

                                                          Coach (Patty G) Gettys
